Capital punishment is part of Bahrain’s legal system

Minister for Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa

The Kingdom of Bahrain is not yet part of the Convention of Abolition of death penalty and capital punishment remains very much part of Bahrain’s judicial system, Justice Minister said.

Minister for Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa responding to a question during the Meet of the Press at the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) told media that final decision in case of killing on duty police officers in 2011 was yet to come.

“The murder case was still pending before Bahrain’s Cessation Court and the impression of commuting death sentence to any one of the accused was not true,” he explained.
