Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Atiya joined the GCC states’ voice on rejecting Iran’s attempts which he said amounts to interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
“GCC countries have always adhered to the good-neighbour policies, committed themselves to the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs and advocated building their relations on mutual respect with other countries, including Iran,” he added.
Al Atiya also lauded the GCC states’ honourable stances in support for the Kingdom of Bahrain’s security and stability.
Citing the decision to deploy the GCC Peninsula Shield troops, he said that the on-going situation in Bahrain requires that move which was in line with the Common Defence Agreement signed by the member states.
“GCC countries have taken the decision out of their commitment to safeguarding the kingdom’s security, as well the safety of its citizens and residents,” he said.
He also reiterated that the GCC countries’ strongly reject any foreign interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs, asserting that no one will be allowed to undermine the Kingdom’s national unity.
“Jeopardizing Bahrain’s security and stability and sowing dissension among its citizens is a dangerous encroachment of the security and stability of the GCC region,” he added, backing all measures taken by the kingdom in order to restore law and order and protect its citizens.
The GCC Chief also called upon all parties in Bahrain to respond immediately to the call for national dialogue initiated by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander, for the sake of reaching domestic peace, as the best means to sustain the Kingdom’s landmark achievements and bring about more reforms.
