RCO Secretary-General Dr Mustafa Al Sayad, left, Somali Education, Culture and Higher Education Minister Ahmed Edid Ibrahim during the agreement signing ceremony in London
Upon directives from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the agreement to build the $1.5 million Bahrain Teachers Institute in Somalia, in cooperation with Islamic Relief Worldwide, was signed in London.

Somali Education, Culture and Higher Education Minister Ahmed Edid Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRWW) Dr. Mohammed Al Alfy and RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayad signed the agreement.

Shaikh Nasser extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to HM King Hamad, RCO Honorary President, for his innumerable humanitarian initiatives and constant keenness to provide aid for the needy and stricken people worldwide.

“Following directives from HM King Hamad and based on the field study conducted to determine the urgent needs of Somalia, RCO signed the agreement to build the Bahrain Teachers Institute there at a cost of about $1.5 million, out of the Kingdom’s keenness to provide quality humanitarian aid to the brotherly Somali people,” he said.

He also pointed out that RCO, backed by the wise leadership, the government and the Bahraini people, will continue its humanitarian work in Somalia in order to relieve the sufferings of the Somali citizens and contribute to the effort to rebuild the country.

He also said that the Institute is the second development project in Somalia in less than three months, citing the laying of the foundation stones of the Bahrain Specialist Hospital in Mogadishu last November, 2011, the kingdom’s commitment to restore sight to 1000 Somali citizens, the digging of 10 wells across the country and the 200 tons of emergency relief aid delivered so far to brotherly Somalis.

RCO Secretary-General Dr Mustafa Al Sayad conveyed greetings from the kingdom’s leadership and people to the brotherly Somali people, and renewed Bahrain’s full-fledged support for Somalia in order to alleviate the sufferings of the victims of drought and famine, lauding the on-going outstanding cooperation with IRWW in carrying out development and relief projects in many countries.

He also pledged that RCO, under the leadership of Shaikh Nasser, will continue its efforts and initiatives aiming to help the Somali people.

The Somali Education Minister expressed his heart-felt thanks and appreciation to the kingdom’s leadership and people for their constant support reflecting the solid fraternal ties bonding Bahrain and Somalia, asserting that Bahrain has always been at the fore of countries that provide relief for people all over the world.

The humanitarian initiatives of the Kingdom’s leadership and people were also commended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Islamic Relief Worldwide Dr. Mohmmed Al Alfy who took pride in the on-going cooperation with RCO, stressing that the kingdom does not provide emergency aid only but also sets up development projects that benefit those countries for generations, which, he said, is a commendable distinctive feature.

The Kingdom’s Ambassador to Great Britain Alice Sama’an and officials from UK charity organization also attended.
