The National Commission charged with the recommendations cited in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday with the delegation representing the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) led by Judge Khalid Ahmed Mohiddin, who works with Professor Mahmoud Charif Basiouni.
During the meeting, the team was made fully aware of the Commission’s processes and action taken to ensure the complete implementation of recommendations to the best international practices and standards, as well as action taken by the government who has in turn demonstrated cooperation with the Commission by continuously providing it with the latest developments on the implementation of the recommendations.
National Commission’s Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh said that over the past two months, the National Commission was able to fulfill its obligations by studying all the recommendations and proposing appropriate action to verify the government’s implementation of those recommendations.
He pointed out that His Majesty’s specification of a timeframe for the Commission’s mandate reflects the seriousness and commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain in expediting the implementation of the recommendations. He also stated that the Kingdom, with its capable national human resources, can find solutions to overcome challenges, while international experiences contribute to the positive reinforcement of those solutions.
The Head of the BICI Delegation said that this visit was intended to get a firsthand about the status on the implementation of the recommendations and to collect and analyze information to be presented to Professor Mahmoud Charif Basiouni, Chairman of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).
He added that the Independent Commission has intentionally steered away from interfering with the privacy of the Kingdom, reason why the BICI recommendations were flexible enough to allow the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain to implement them in compliance with recognized international standards.
Delegation members lauded the efforts of the National Commission to date towards the implementation of the recommendations, and the follow up processes it adopted. They said that the processes of implementation of the recommendations are considered a distinguishing mark in the history of the Bahraini people, and reflect the Kingdom as a model to be followed in the Middle East by governments capable of taking action to introduce required reforms.
The Delegation, comprised of Dr. Serri Siam, former CEO of Egypt’s Stock Exchange, Dr. Mohamed Hilal, a Harvard School of Law faculty member, and Mohamed Zaid, member in charge of the BICI Secretariat, emphasized that the Bahraini people has the capabilities to implement the recommendations concerned with the national reconciliation and building bridges between sects in Bahrain.
