The Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre is set to play host to a critical exchange of professional insights and technological innovations aimed at maximising the discovery of oil and gas during the 10th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition (GEO 2012).

As geoscientists strive towards innovative solutions to meet rising global hydrocarbon demand in the face of increasingly difficult challenges, the 10th exhibition and conference in this important series will assemble key companies and leading figures from 4 – 7 March 2012 to debate and shape the future of exploration in the Middle East.

Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the 14,000 square metre exhibition of oil and gas exploration products and services at this landmark event showcases over 150 exhibitors from 27 countries.

Principal participants include all six GCC national oil and gas companies – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Bapco, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Petroleum Development Oman, Qatar Petroleum and Saudi Aramco – who will be exhibiting alongside super majors including Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell and Total. Service industry giants BGP, CGGVeritas, Halliburton, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, Schlumberger, Tatweer Petroleum and Weatherford; national groups from North America and the UK; and numerous smaller independent specialist suppliers and distributors from across the globe complete this lineup.

“With its large producing fields, immense hydrocarbon reserves and untapped potential, the Middle East will continue to play a pivotal role in supplying the world with its increasing energy needs for the foreseeable future. GEO 2012 represents a timely opportunity for participants to initiate business, and at the same time, serve the needs of the industry as it seeks to progress through strategic collaborations, healthy competition and technological innovations,” said Arabian Exhibition Management’s Director of Sales and Marketing Fawzi Al Shehabi.

The high level technical conference that runs parallel to the GEO 2012 exhibition takes place this year under the theme ‘Shaping the Future of Geoscience in the Middle East.’

The programme is supported and developed by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS), the Bahrain Geoscience Society (BGS), the Geological Society of Oman (GSO), Qatar Geological Society (QGS) and the Emirates Society of Geoscience (ESG) in collaboration with a committee of senior regional and international industry figures. In 2012, the programme committee is chaired by Petroleum Development Oman’s Director of Exploration Intisaar Al Kindy.

Over 2,000 conference delegates are expected to attend and benefit from more than 360 technical paper and poster presentations delivered by peers, designed to share the knowledge and experience of managing, operating and supplying companies.

Topics range from human resources, technologies to solve complex reservoir challenges, reservoir characterisation, advances in geophysics, integration and next generation technologies, petro physics, geological studies and basin modelling, new play concepts in exploration, harvesting unconventional resources, environment and safety in addition to special sessions.

GEO 2012 will also offer 5 panel sessions led by presidents, vice presidents, CEOs, deputy managing directors, and chairmen of key players in the industry such as CGGVeritas, Chevron, Daleel Petroleum, Dana Gas, Dolphin Energy, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Petroleum Development Oman, Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger, Shell, Tatweer Petroleum, Total and WesternGeco. These sessions will cover new exploration frontiers, geoscience and the environment, multi-disciplinary approaches to hydrocarbon exploration and development, emerging trends in research and development and maximising recovery from reserves.

Ancillary events held alongside GEO 2012 will provide delegates with further opportunities to learn and integrate. These include 7 short courses and 3 field trips.

Special workshops and networking events for students will also be staged, covering oil and gas fundamentals, CV and business writing, and presentation skills.

“Over the last two decades, GEO has established itself as the premier forum for presenting and learning about best practices, new developments and applications in geosciences in the Middle East region. The theme of the conference, ‘Shaping the Future of Geoscience in the Middle East’ focuses on the current challenges facing hydrocarbon exploration and production with emphasis on future technology and opportunities. The conference also aims to highlight the increased environmental challenges in the region by sharing best practices in exploring and producing hydrocarbons in the most environmentally responsible manner. Undoubtedly, this conference is very well attended by decision makers, senior executives and the most talented scientists and engineers in the hydrocarbon industry,” said Intisaar Al Kindy, GEO 2012 Chairperson.
