Barclays Capital announced the launch of Special Opportunities Equity Research coverage. The coverage team will provide fundamental research on select companies that predominantly reside in the small- and mid-capitalization space. The team will provide a stock rating, price target and earnings per share estimate for each company under coverage.
The Special Opportunities team, led by Kannan Venkateshwar, will focus on companies that are often overlooked by institutional investors. These could include industries and companies that are currently in a state of flux, have stressed business models or with relatively complex capital or corporate structures. Focusing on equity value, the team will also take an integrated view of the company’s capital structure to identify absolute and relative value opportunities.
“This new coverage team will provide insights into companies which are typically not covered by sell side analysts due to the complex environments in which they operate,” Stu Linde, Head of Global Equity Research, said. “These companies invariably have an important story to tell, and it is our goal to provide our clients with the knowledge they need to invest effectively in these unique companies.”
The Special Opportunities effort will partner closely with the Equity-Linked Strategies Research group, led by Venu Krishna, which currently incorporates equity derivatives, convertible bond and risk arbitrage research, to integrate fundamental research with equity linked market opportunities.
