In the BIC 2,000cc Challenge, Stephen Kellogg continued his fine dominance of the 2011/2012 season with a brilliant start to this year’s final meeting.
Driving a Honda CIVIC, Kellogg clinched pole position for the weekend’s first race after clocking a fastest lap of 2m 31.080s in Friday’s qualifying.
Kellogg was just 0.740s quicker than Raed Himmo in a Honda CRX. Himmo will be starting alongside Kellogg on the front row; while directly behind them will be Tim Birkin in a Honda Integra. Birkin finished 1.515s behind the pace-setter in qualifying for third on the grid.
Salah Salahuddin (+3.250s) secured the fourth starting position, Abdulrahman Ghuloom (+5.037s) the fifth, Alex Longden (+5.351s) sixth, Hussain Karimi (+8.018s) the seventh and Ahmed Kuzbar (+15.978s) rounded out the grid in eighth.
Earlier the day during free practice, Kellogg topped the timesheet with a fastest lap of 2m 30.699s. Himmo was second with a 2.797s gap; while Birkin finished third 3.421s off Kellogg’s pace.
Saturday’s first race is scheduled to flag off at 12noon. Race two, which will feature a reverse grid based on race one’s final classification, will begin at 3.30pm.
