World Energy Congress 2013 call for papers

August 1, 2012
0

The Daegu 2013 Organizing Committee of the World Energy Congress on Wednesday issued a call for papers ahead of the world’s top-level meeting of energy experts and professionals, to be held in Korea next year.

Submissions are invited from global experts in their respective fields. The selected papers will be presented to the dedicated expert forum at the Congress and distributed on USB drives to all attendees at the four-day event, which takes place in the South Korean city of Daegu from 13 to 17 October 2013.

The theme of the Congress is “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today”, and the Organizing Committee invites authors to provide their insights on a theme relating to any one of the World Energy Council’s six main activity areas including energy scenarios; energy resources and technologies; energy policy trilemma (i.e. the trade-off between energy security, social equity and environmental impact); energy access and energy and urban innovation; global energy frameworks and governance.

“We already have a highly impressive roster of speakers lined up for next October,” Joong-Kyum Kim, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and President and CEO of the Korea Electric Power Corporation, said.

“I am confident that the prestige of the event, combined with the powerful list of speakers who will be attending, will attract papers of equal quality.”

With 15 months to go before the Congress, the Organizing Committee recently announced the names of 15 high-profile speakers who have confirmed their attendance at Daegu 2013. They include Khalid A. Al-Falih, CEO of Saudi Aramco; Mohamed Bin Dhaen Al Hamil, Minister of Energy of UAE; Haruhiko Kuroda, President of the Asian Development Bank; James Leape, Director General of the WWF International; Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director, IEA; and Peter Voser, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell.
“We are seeking papers that combine expert knowledge with impactful analysis of key energy-related issues. We are not afraid of controversy; what we want is serious insight into the critical issues that the forum will be discussing,” Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the London-based World Energy Council, said.

Authors can send papers from October 1, 2012, with the final deadline February 28, 2013. The Organizing Committee will notify writers of papers which have been selected for distribution on May 15, 2013.

The Organizing Committee is also offering an excellence award to the author of the best paper, details of which will be announced at a later date

All papers must be original works and should not be under review for similar events or for journals. The works should be written in English and not exceed 15 pages.
