The endorsement of Bahrain’s Human Rights report by the Human Rights Council affirms the international community’s support for the Kingdom and its reform and development strategy, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Khalid while referring to the acceptance of Bahrain’s reforms by the UNHRC in Geneva, said that both the Kingdom’s leadership and people faced a number of challenges and a variety of difficulties towards achieving this high international accomplishment thus rebuking all falsified claims.

The minister indicated that the Geneva conference was the true and serious beginning for the return of the international community to the truth after it was affirmed to countries and their organisations that the kingdom had endured following the falsified claims and misleading information.

He also highlighted the international accolades attained by Bahrain in the field of human rights came through the national efforts exerted, patience and determination to refute all untrue claims instigated by organisations that diverted from the truth.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs lauded the national community coherence and the cooperation of civic societies that presented a wonderful image in Geneva that gained the respect of world and responded to all who tried to offend the kingdom and its people.

He stressed that what was achieved in Geneva is a great motivation to continue the comprehensive progress of national development witnessed by the Kingdom led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa through his great ambitions and wise directive towards continued advancement and improvement of the lives of citizens and providing the best living standards.

The progress would also continue through the Government efforts led by the Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa who had enriched the country by his wisdom and experience in all fields and visionary insight of the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He also stressed that human rights has become a standard for measuring the level of progress of a country and bring people and tangible evidence of the extent of mobility of society and its development and progress, noting that the Kingdom has followed a unique approach to the protection of human rights that is based on several aspects.

The most important of these is legislation that is necessary for the protection of human rights and inclusiveness of all walks of life and ratification of related international treaties and conventions, in addition to the establishment of institutions guaranteeing these rights and freedoms along with the educational aspect. This he said was vital in order to preserve the Bahraini society as a democratic society able to achieve sustainable development.

Te pointed out that the promotion and upgrading of human rights will continue to be the primary concern and the basic requirements guaranteed by the Constitution and protected by the law which in turn would preserve citizens having decent living standards.

The foreign minister said that following the directives of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister a detailed report will be presented to the Cabinet related to what was discussed at the Geneva conference last week and the results of participating in the conference discussions and events.

“This would then be referred for the immediate commencement of the implementation of these recommendations according to the plan, which the government is currently putting to ensure the speedy and accurate implementation.”
