He voiced keenness to meet with well-known international organisations to ensure they have access to true information and answer their queries about the latest developments in Bahrain.
He stressed that Bahrain’s media, in general, and the national press; in particular, enjoy a high level of freedom of expression.
He pointed out that His Majesty the King was the first to declare rejection of any legislation imprisoning a journalist because of expressing an opinion.
He added that this stance is backed by the government and the Representatives Council which will soon discuss a draft law regulating communication, media and the press. The new law, he said, will replace the old one which is still effective and needs review and development following the visions of the National Consensus Dialogue and the views of relevant personalities and parties in the media and press sector in Bahrain.
The minister presented a comprehensive account to RSF Director on progress in implementing the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry and the Human Rights Council, including mainly those pertaining to the media and press field.
He also stressed the big facilities provided by the kingdom for foreign reporters and journalists to enter Bahrain and do their job. However, he said, there are some journalists who exploit those facilities for activities which have nothing to do with their job.
Obrecht thanked Dr. Salah for the information, expressing desire to visit Bahrain.
