The State Minister for Electricity and Water Dr Mirza
The Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza, paid a visit to Muharraq Municipal Council to review the needs of the citizens form Electricity and Water Authority, as well as listening to members of the municipal councils to know about the needs of their constituencies.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of the Municipal Council, Abdul Nasser Al Mahmeed welcomed the Minister and all the presence, and expressed the members of the council’s and his greatest concern and appreciation for his visit.

Dr. Mirza delivered a speech, where he thanked the Head and members of the municipal council and their communication with the Electricity and Water Authority, highlighting that those visits are of great importance for both officials and citizens.

Dr. Mirza pointed out that those visits also came out of the directives of HRH the Premier, and in the framework of having sustainable communications with citizens to know about their needs concerning electricity and water, and exert the greatest efforts to facilitate providing those services.

Dr. Mirza added that they highly valued the endless supports received by Electricity and Water Authority from His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, and from HRH the Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, and from the Crown Prince HRH, Deputy Supreme Commander, Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa for all the Authority’s projects. Dr. Mirza highlighted that their support came from their keenness to make electricity and water services available for all citizens and residents, and meet all the urban projects.

Dr. Mirza said that because of that support, they could achieve several projects including transmission and distribution of electricity, building main and sub stations, completing the implementation of several projects of constructing water tanks, water transferring lines and its distribution. Dr. Mirza pointed out the importance of communication between the members of municipal councils and officials for referring the needs of citizens to all state officials to be achieved.

The Minister said that the purpose of the meeting with them was to review the most important issues concerning electricity and water, and also reviewing what has been achieved and the authority’s efforts to meet the accelerating needs for electricity and water, as well as knowing about the citizens’ opinions about the most prominent issues they faced during this summer.

The minister said that there were electrical energy savings, and also desalinated water, therefore they were not facing any problem in providing those services.

The Head and members of the municipal council presented some issues related to the needs of their constituencies, particularly establishing sub-stations to strengthen the power of the grid, lighting some bypass roads, maintenance of old lighting, replacing the old lighting posts with new ones, and completing the work of contractors, and providing energy for investment projects.

Some members highlighted the citizens’ fear of establishing sub-stations in residential neighbourhoods.

The Minister said that establishing such stations do not pose any harm, but they are constructed to meet the needs of areas for electricity, water and minimize interruptions, and concerning the excavations in some areas left by contractors, Dr. Mirza directed officials to the need to urge those contractors to complete their work and asked them to impose sanctions toward the violators.

At the end of the meeting, Abdul Nasser Al Mahmeed and members of the council thanked the minister and the officials at the Electricity and Water Authority for their cooperation.
