The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) celebrated a decade of parliamentarians from around the world collaborating to fight the scourge of corruption.
“This week marks a milestone not only for GOPAC but also for the global fight against corruption,” John Williams, GOPAC CEO and Founder, said. “We are reflecting on what we have accomplished through our strong network of dedicated legislators and renewing our commitment to ensure good governance and the rule of law in countries around the world.”
Since its inception, GOPAC members have been instrumental in numerous anti-corruption initiatives, including drafting and successfully introducing anti-money laundering legislation in the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan; drafting and tabling of two critical bills in the Parliament of Lebanon on access to information and on whistleblower protection; driving through significant amendments to anti-money laundering laws in the Philippines; driving the promotion of a Handbook on anti-corruption and a code of ethics in the Parliament of Zambia and strengthening anti-money laundering laws in Mexico.
“A successful fight against corruption starts with solid legislation and an accountable Executive and GOPAC will continue to be a driving force in this fight for decades to come,” Williams, added.
GOPAC is a worldwide alliance of parliamentarians working together to combat corruption, strengthen good government, and uphold the rule of law. Based in Ottawa, Canada, GOPAC has 50 national chapters on five continents. GOPAC supports its members’ efforts through original research, global anti-corruption capacity building, and international peer support.
