Samsung embarks on a new era of Smart PC evolution

Samsung Electronics, which enjoys 16.7% of PC market share in Bahrain up from 8.7% in 2011, announced the launch of Samsung ATIV smart PCs at a launch-cum-Press conference held at Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Tuesday.

The launch of Samsung ATIV smart PCs which it said offer hybrid form-factor for maximum ease of use is likely to further bolster its position in Bahrain market which according to an official witnessed 101% increase in 2012 over 2011.

New ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro is embedded with the Windows 8 operating system can easily transform from a traditional notebook PC to a tablet PC device with just a click of a button, maximizing both productivity and mobility.

A. Aziz Bin Hindi, Vice President, AA Bin Hindi, said that the launch of Samsung latest PCs was part of Samsung’s evolution in smart PCs segment.

With the introduction of Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, Samsung introduces ATI, the new brand for its Windows-based devices. ATIV, the reverse order of the word VITA, meaning Life in Latin, is a pledge by Samsung to make everyone’s life extraordinary with excitement.

“ATIV represents Samsung’s commitment to contribute to a new mobile environment by providing users with limitless options for creation on-the-go,” Denzil D’Souza, Business Head for Notebooks, Samsung Gulf Electronics, told a Press conference.

“The ATIV Smart PC line-up leverages our leadership in design and technology and introduces an unrivalled computing experience. The devices truly represent a new era of powerful mobile computing that will empower users to work and create freely anywhere.”

Combining the power of a notebook PC and the convenience of a tablet PC, the 11.6inch Samsung ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro are Samsung’s latest set of smart devices, compatible with both Windows 7 and 8 operating systems. The PCs feature a detachable keyboard-docking system that allow users to switch easily between a clamshell notebook PC and a tablet PC form-factor, making them Samsung’s most powerful, mobile devices.

An advanced 10-finger multi-touch screen provides a technological leap in interactivity, surpassing the traditional two-finger touch features. Its enhanced screen sensitivity allows users to pinch-to-zoom, rotate images and scroll through pages easily to enjoy the full capabilities of the latest entertainment applications.

In addition, the ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro are equipped with the renowned S Pen, delivering real writing and drawing experiences for maximum productivity, both at the desk and on-the-go. Just like using a pen or pencil, the WACOM digitizer pen, with its 1024-level pressure sensitivity, is capable of meeting the demands of professionals and consumers alike. The pre-loaded S Note application accompanies the S Pen to make writing and drawing as simple and intuitive as possible. In addition, the S Camera on the ATIV Smart PCs fully exploits the performance of an integrated front and rear cameras. While the ATIV Smart PC is powered with an 8M rear camera with flash and 2M front facing camera, the ATIV Smart PC Pro is powered with a 5M rear camera and 2M front facing camera.

The S Player ensures seamless playback of images and videos in any format. This content is presented with Samsung’s SuperBright 11.6-inch Full HD LCD display, producing the most vivid colors and sharpness with 400nit brightness. Beautifully stylish and ultra-portable, the ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro are only 9.9mm and 11.9mm thick respectively. While the ATIV Smart PC Pro’s powerful Intel Core i5 processor can handle both demanding professional use and daily multimedia consumption, the ATIV Smart PC’s Intel Atom Z2760 processor is a solid match for everyday productivity tasks.

Despite their compact and portable form factors, the two devices feature USB 2.0 (Smart PC), USB 3.0 (Smart PC Pro), mHDMI, miniSD and two extra USB 2.0 ports on the keyboard. Adding to its mobility credentials, the ATIV Smart PC has a battery life of up to 13.5 hours, whereas its stronger sister device, the ATIV Smart PC Pro, runs up to eight hours giving users the freedom to work remotely without needing to worry about recharging.

The ATIV Smart PC and ATIV SMART PC Pro are now available across major outlets in Bahrain and will retail at BHD 299.9 and BHD 449.9 respectively.
