This came as he held talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry on bilateral cooperation and ways of bolstering political, military and economic relations. Shaikh Khalid updated his US counterpart on developments in Bahrain, affirming the Kingdom’s commitment to the reform process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to promote liberties and ensure citizens’ decent living standards in a civil state based on the rule of the law, equal opportunities and the rejection of all forms of terror.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the National Consensus Dialogue, being engaged in Bahrain, represents the right path to overcome obstacles hampering the desired development and achieve citizens’ real aspirations.
The minister hailed the US pivotal role in defending the region, maintaining its security and stability and staving off any threats, reiterating Bahrain’s firm historic commitment to cooperate with all allies and partners.
The two sides discussed regional developments, stressing the need to push the Middle East peace process forward. Shaikh Khalid welcomed the commitment of the US Department of State in this regard, stressing the importance of settling the Arab-Israeli conflict on the basis of the international resolutions related to the Arab Peace Initiative. The two sides asserted the importance of achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people to ensure stability, peace and harmony throughout Syria.
