Ebtikar Association held a workshop titled “Entrepreneurship and ICT” presented by Raman Jaggi, Consultant and Expert in entrepreneurship at Khalifa Fund, UAE; it was held in conjunction with the Bahrain International e-Government Forum 2013.
Jaggi reviewed models and properties of entrepreneurship ecosystems in some developed countries and he compared it with the existing ecosystem in Bahrain.
He also explained the role and importance of innovation in developing entrepreneurship. Moreover, he stressed on the importance of developing intrapreneurship in ICT institutions and companies which aimed at creating new small and medium enterprises and contribute in development of the knowledge based economy in Bahrain.
The lecturer explained the opportunities, challenges and effects of internal and external factors that face entrepreneur. Also he reviewed and discussed the prevailing reasons for success or failure of entrepreneurs in establishing and managing their projects.
“Organizing this workshop was the first initiative by the association that aims to develop a spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and innovators to develop their ideas and turn them into successful business ventures. Creativity and innovation in today’s world is a major driver behind the creation of businesses, especially SMEs. Also, it assists in creating jobs, raising productivity efficiency and improving performance and competitiveness in order to achieve sustainable development and prosperity of the knowledge economy in Bahrain,” Osama Al Khaja, Ebtikar Association President, said.
“This workshop provided participants with inspiring ideas and knowledge for starting up in entrepreneurial and intraprenurial environment. It explained the role of innovation and its importance in developing entrepreneurship in ICT sector. Also it consolidated values of entrepreneurship in existing institutions and companies to contribute to their growth and prosperity,” Al Khaja, added.
Participants in this workshop consisted of executives, managers and professionals from private and public sectors in addition to university students and entrepreneurs.
