SCW hails equal education opportunities for women

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Al-Ansari, has expressed her appreciation for the decision taken by Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Education to establish an Equal Opportunities Unit in the Ministry of Education. The Unit, as one of the outcomes of the Supreme Council for Women’s efforts with the various government organizations aims to ensure the integration of women’s needs in development as part of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2013-2022).

The Secretary-General emphasized the importance of establishing an Equal Opportunities Unit in the Ministry of Education, due to the major role the ministry has in the educational process of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This will contribute to highlighting the participation of Bahraini women in this process, its impact in supporting empowerment programs for working women, as well as ensuring justice and equal opportunities and integrating the needs of women in education through as well as training programs for working women in the ministry or through obtaining leadership and decision-making positions in the ministry.

Al-Ansari expressed the Supreme Council for Women’s dedication to strengthening the role of working experts in the various government ministries and companies in order to benefit from their experiences, which includes the expertise of working women.
On this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women thanked Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Education, for his support in establishing the Equal Opportunities Unit in the ministry, and the allocation of the required human resources in order to implement the duties and responsibilities of the unit, to enhance justice and equal opportunities through including the concepts of integrating the needs of women in the educational curricula.

Al- Ansari also commended the formation of an Equal Opportunities Unit in the Ministry of Education, as it will spread awareness to a generation on the importance of the role of women in development, while looking forward to more government ministries and organization taking the initiative of establishing such units.

Since the establishment of the National Committee to follow up and implement the National Model for Mainstreaming the Needs of Women in the government action plan, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women, the Council in all its capacity are working towards this goal, which includes “Equal Opportunities” as one of its priorities which has resulted in the establishment of equal opportunities units in a number of government miniseries and organizations.

Ministries and organizations that have established equal opportunities units include: Ministry of Social Development, Shura Council, Ministry of Foreign affairs , General Organization for Youth and Sports, Information Affairs Authority, Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Housing, Ministry of Health, National Oil and Gas Authority, Ministry of Finance, Council of Representatives, Economic Development Board, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Ministry of Education.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain has issued royal order No. (14) for the year 2011, to establish and organize the National Committee to follow up and implement the National Model for Mainstreaming the Needs of in the government action plan, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women.
