Minister assures smooth food supply chain during Ramadan

As part of Government’s commitment to ensure the affordability and supply of food chain during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Industry and Commerce Minister visited major malls and shopping centre and local market outlets.

The Ministry in a statement confirmed that as part of his continuing visits to supermarkets and retail outlet in the country, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr. Hassan Fakhro toured Manama Central market, Ramez Store, Mega Mart to stand over the markets promotions and great offers that include a lot of goods. in addition to Bahrain City Center and Seef Mall to check on the availability of required quantities of food goods and to identify prices especially with close of the holy month of Ramadan, which rises demand for basic foodstuffs.

The Minister stressed on the importance role of consumers in enhancing markets and prices stability and reduce trade abuses and violations that are committed by some in markets especially in special occasions and seasons, noting in this regard to consumer awareness which will protect himself from these abuses and or regulations through reporting at any time on Consumer Protection department 17574921 or consumer protection hotline 17530096.

Dr. Hassan Fakhro confirmed on the abundance of food commodities and the ministry follows up the good stock which range between 3 to 6 months, calling on consumers to moderate in the process of buying food, noting that all essentials are in abundant quantities in the market covering the demand.

In this context, the minister stressed the importance of cooperation between consumers and Consumer Protection Directorate to stand in all developments that may arise in the markets, noting that the Consumer Protection is exist to protect and enhance markets stability in general.

During Minister’s visit to Manama Central Market, the minister was reassured on the availability of all kind of local vegetables and fruits that are imported from many countries around the world and which are selected according to agricultural seasons and appropriate prices. In this regard, official confirmed that prices for these materials are stable, noting to provide markets with tons of vegetables and fruits.

He also was briefed on the abundance and stability of the prices of leafy vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, parsley and, watercress and other vegetables that increase in demand during Ramadan. The minister was also briefed on the comparisons of the abundance of other vegetables and their prices such cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, onions, zucchini and ensure multiple sources of imported.

In Ramez store, Ghalib Mansour noted that the store keenness to provide all facilities and promotions to consumers, which includes various types of good, foodstuffs, pointing out that Ramez, is implementing a marketing campaign including Ramadan goods to ease burden in consumers especially in such seasons.

In Mega Mart, where the minister was received by marketing manager Raju confirmed the increase in shoppers number in the recent period especially in light of promotions offered which includes most of the goods.

The minister also visited Carrefour; officials confirmed the continuous of promotion which includes a lot of goods, pointing the increase of shoppers on weekends and evening times from inside and outside the Kingdom.

Dr, Fakhro visited Seef mall, Mr. Robert Addison briefed the Minister on the latest development of commercial movement in the mall and confirmed that most of the shops are running summer promotions which encourage in attracting a lot of shoppers and assured the growing number of visitors.

Industry and Commerce Minister is keen to do these tours regularly and continuously to find out the latest development of markets movement that affects citizens and residents needs in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
