Bahrain has been a tolerant society over the decades and its people known for their firm believe in the peaceful co-existence which speaks volume of rich traditions and values as a great nation.
The Minister of State for Information Affairs, Sameera Rajab, who is also the Official Government Spokesperson, told media during the post Cabinet meeting that HRH the Prime Minister praised the Bahraini social fabric, and the culture of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance that it practices.
The Cabinet discussed, during the regular session held in Qudaibiya Palace, a number of subjects and memorandums listed on the agenda.
The Cabinet discussed and approved the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs on the draft law for Standards and Metrology.
The aim of the draft law submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade is to keep pace with the latest economic developments and fill the current legislative vacuum with respect to standards and metrology, by changing some of the legal concepts in line with the developments which the Kingdom of Bahrain is witnessing in the economic, investment, technological and legislative infrastructure.
The Cabinet discussed and approved the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Minister of State for Defense Affairs regarding the Kingdom of Bahrain’s accession to some of the agreements on military and security affairs.
The proposed accession agreements are as follows:
1. The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) sealed in 2013.
2. Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May be Deemed to be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects of the year 2008, and only Protocol III, IV and V of this convention, similar to other GCC states.
The accession to these agreements signifies the Kingdom’s commitment to disarmament, especially to weapons that could cause superfluous or random injuries to humans.
The Cabinet discussed the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Minister of Finance on the audited statements of the future Generation Reserve account for the fiscal year 2012.
The report indicated that the Future Generation Reserve achieved in 2012 its most important objectives, by maintaining the capital account since its inception in 2007 and achieving a profit margin higher than the return on cash, in spite of the economic and financial crises that gripped financial markets in the past years.
The final account for the Future Generation Reserve was estimated at $345.6million by the end of the year 2012.
The Cabinet approved the final account of the Future Generation Reserve and decided to refer it to the Council of Representatives, according to Law No. (28) for the year 2006.
The Cabinet was briefed on the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Minister of Human Rights Affairs on the work of the 24th Session of the Human Rights Council that was held in Geneva from 9th to 29th September 2013.
