The voting for the 28th term of the BCCI election for four year term is being held in Bahrain for the first time without the proxy vote as per the new law.
The new law is seen a game changer at the BCCI as the new system will certainly put a lid on passing on a baton from one to generation to another at the Bahrain Chamber history since 1930’s.
This is the first time in the over seven decades history of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the owners of the businesses and authorised persons within any business entity were allowed to cast their votes unlike 27th term when the proxy voting had been the major deciding factor in elections.
“The new law is seen as a catalyst to encourage the business community to elect a body in transparent and fair manners by minimising the role of ‘money factor’ in elections,” the BCCI members told The24X7News.
“We hope the elections in 2014 will yield a positive result as we don’t need big names but we need working business community members who can help and understand our problems,” an active member of the BCCI said, adding the buying of proxy votes had eclipsed the results of BCCI elections in the past but we are giving a try to a new system for better future.
