Manama: Al Abraaj Restaurants Group, the company behind some of Bahrain’s most popular restaurants such as Al Abraaj, Al Bindaira Cafe and Nu Asia Restaurants, has announced the launch of a new concept -Lumee Street Cafe. Inspired by Middle Eastern street food, Lumee Street Cafe captures the exciting food and experience of traditional street eateries in a buzzing, contemporary venue.
The inspiration for the concept comes from the region’s street cafes and restaurants, from the legendary street grills in Bahrain to the colorful falafel carts in Egypt and the fresh tea and coffee houses of Turkey.
The concept of this cafe-cum-deli is to take traditional dishes and add a contemporary slant to make it an exciting new experience. The menu is filled with classic options such as hummus or Bahraini tikka as well as new dishes such as spicy mattai salad or quinoa kebbe.
Lumee Street Cafe combines a cafe with a deli to give visitors the option to dine in or take home the food of their choice. The name Lumee is Bahraini slang for lemons and lime and is directly related to the food concept at Lumee which is flavour-packed, fresh and zesty. It also highlights the fact that lemons are an integral part of many dishes in the region.
“Al Abraaj Restaurants has a long track-record of introducing new concepts. Every time we launch a new restaurant we aim to give our customers something new to experience,” the Director at Al Abraaj Restaurants Group said.
The menu at Lumee Street Cafe has been created in consultation with award winning chef, Chris Barber. His career has encompassed many aspects of the food business and his CV includes both high street cafes and Michelin-starred restaurants.
“The whole concept started with the idea of adding a European slant to classic Middle Eastern grills, breads, salads, and mezzes. We haven’t ‘reinvented the wheel’, because clearly we have some awesome talent and excellent restaurants within the Al Abraaj family; however Lumee is a little different from the norm.”
The warm and rustic decor of the place gives you a homely feel while the seating has been designed to allow for a cozy, comfortable and sharing experience. In addition to the menu, Lumee offers an amazing array of local products and produce: pickled lemons, authentic spices and pastes and other deli staples.
