MANAMA: Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce Ministry Mr. Osama Alorrayedh honored the first patch that successfully completed workshop on “Enhancing the Quality of Industrial Policies.” The workshop is organized by the UNIDO in cooperation with German Agency of Industrial policies.
Advisors at the German Embassy Hanz-Juergen Lamtrecht and Eiko Kaufmann from the GIZ attended the graduation ceremony. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Industry and Commerce Minister Zayed R. Alzayani.
During the ceremony, undersecretary delivered a speech on behalf of the minister stating that the basic objective of any industrial policy is to make it easier to do business within the rules of law and provide a simple yet effective and transparent regulatory mechanism. This is a simple principle that you have to keep in mind when you go back to work and this motto, combined with the knowledge and analytical skills gained by you at this Workshop, should be your guiding principle in your work.
“You have now learnt the basic concepts and have to move towards practice of these concepts in your professional work. I will advise you to keep in mind the domestic as well as export dimensions of your economy when engaging with policy related issues. The need for sustainable employment to alleviate poverty and improve the living standards of people is an important paradigm of any economic policy making.”
The undersecretary extends minister’s appreciation for UNIDO for choosing Bahrain to be the location of the UNIDO International Academy for training professionals in the field of industrial policy and capacity building. The participants had the benefit of interacting with a very experienced and learned faculty drawn from the combined resources of UNIDO and GIZ.
Organizing this international workshop comes as first initial training for the UNIDO and was organized with technical and financial support from GIZ during the period from 1 to 12 of March. Around 22 experts from 21 countries participated in the work shop and are Bahrain and Oman and Seychelles, Azerbaijan, Fiji and the Dominican state and Philippines, Egypt, Ethiopia and Uruguay and Zimbabwe and Lesotho, Ghana, Swaziland and Myanmar, Laos and Chile, Colombia, Cameroon, Cambodia.
