MANAMA: The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday undertook a coordinated security operation in Diraz, following confirmed intelligence of criminals at large being harboured in the area.
During the operation, security forces came under direct attack from individuals using firebombs, knifes and axes. Nineteen police officers were severely injured during the encounter, some of whom remain in critical condition, and five individuals among those who were attacking officers are confirmed to have died.
In line with procedure, an immediate government investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the deaths, and the Kingdom’s independent investigatory institutions will conduct separate inquiries. Further information will be released in due course.
