Bahrain is emerging hub for ‘family tourism’ in post COVID-19 era


Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The Kingdom of Bahrain is riveting its eyes on the family tourism, thanks to its geographic location and the necessary infrastructure of hospitality sector.

As the Kingdom starts opening up its tourism and hospitality facilities in a phased manner, the family tourism segment has emerged as one of the key hotpots for the leading hotels in Bahrain.

The cautious approach of the Government based on science by not enforcing a complete lockdown has kept the hopes alive and morale of the private sector very high, says a leading hotelier in Bahrain.

Families are coming to the hotel to enjoy serenity and privacy in addition to plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for all accompanied folks irrespective of the age, Zeki Ozal General Manager, Jumeirah Royal Saray Bahrain in an exclusive interview with The24X7News (www.twentyfoursevennews.com), said.

If we compare month on month basis, the GM continues, we have better room bookings in August, for example, than the previous month and this trend is gaining momentum with each passing week.

Talking about the prospects of the family tourism business he said that the opening of Bahrain-Saudi causeway would be crucial as the close proximity with the region’s largest economy has had traditionally helped Bahrain’s tourism and hospitality sector.

“The decision to open the causeway will immediately boost the business but everyone should cooperate with the governments in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to suppress the virus and ultimately get rid of the pandemic,” he said.

“We are extremely positive about the opening of restaurants and other facilities in line with the recommendations of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the near future which will propel the businesses across the board,” Zeki said, adding that the people were witnessing a gradual opening of the country that offers businesses a lot of hope that the future going to be a very promising.

Having said that, he adds, let us be clear that all segments of hospitality sector are not going back to normal at once, however, a gradual opening guarantees that the economy will not have to be rolled back like that of many other countries after resurgence of the virus.

“We have seen the opening of the pools on in the fits week of August and restaurants are still closed and we know it may be hurting businesses but it is the necessity and need of the hour,” he said.

“The emphasis by the authorities to follow the guidelines and measures serves as a catalyst to suppress the virus. The steps and guidelines implemented by the Ministry of Health will ultimately help Bahrain to eliminate the virus. The guidelines and measures should be seen from the point of view of health and every individual should help authorities to combat pandemic,” he said.

“The gradual opening of hospitality sector would boost the national economy as well as the business climate in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” Mr Zeki, said.
