Initiative to close skill gaps in banking, finance yields positive results

Manama: A total of 391 Bahraini job seekers have received training since the signing of the MoU between the Ministry of Labour and the BIBF in June last year, noting that the training programme provided by BIBF will facilitate the integration of Bahrainis in the financial and banking sector.

Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Social Development, has stressed the importance of enhancing training in vital sectors that attract citizens and constitute an added value to the national economy, especially the financial and banking sector.

He said that the financial and banking sector is witnessing continuous growth in Bahrain, which requires the availability of qualified national professional manpower to fill job opportunities in the various disciplines it provides.

The minister was speaking during the signing of a three-month extension of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Labour and Social Development Ministry and the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) to train job seekers remotely.

Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) Governor, Rasheed Mohammed Al-Maraj, BIBF Director-General, Dr. Ahmed Abdulghani Al-Shaikh, and officials from both sides were present.

Labour Ministry’s Undersecretary, Ahmed Jaffar Al-Hayki, and BIBF Director-General signed the MoU extension.

The MoU, which took effect last June, achieved positive results in training job seekers in the field of banking, as part of the national efforts to provide the banking sector with trained national competencies, in light of the steady growth of the banking and financial sector in the Kingdom.

CBB Governor praised the ongoing fruitful cooperation between the Labour Ministry and BIBF to create suitable training programmes that qualify national competencies and facilitate their access to the labour market.

He highlighted CBB’s keenness to coordinate with BIBF to provide diverse training programmes that meet the needs of the labour market, valuing highly the efforts being exerted by the Labour Ministry to develop and rehabilitate the national competencies, as well as ensure the growth of the labour market.

BIBF Director-General said that all participants in the specialised training sessions have received free training, noting that the extension of the MoU aims to continue efforts to provide more qualified national competencies that can join the financial and banking sector.

He hailed the efforts made by the Labour Ministry to integrate Bahrain’s human resources in the labour markets’ promising sectors.
