Artificial lift industry in oil sector reaches $11 billion

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, taking the tour of the SPE Middle East Exhibition in presence of Conference organisers

Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: With oil industry remains fundamental for global prosperity, the global artificial lift industry market stands at $11 billion and continues to expand at a staggering rate, according to a senior official at Aramco.

“As a matter of fact, more than three quarters of the global oil wells now deployed, one or another are artificial lift, with the majority utilising ESPs or fracking. In the Middle East, and especially in our region, a significant portion of our daily production comes from ESPs and we have every reason to believe that this trend will continue for many years to come,” Waleed Al Mulhim, Executive Director of Petroleum Engineering and Development, at Aramco in his opening remarks at the SPE Middle East Conference and Exhibition, said.

In the presence of 200 delegates at the SPE Middle East Artificial Lift Conference and Exhibition, the experts highlighted the salient features of reliability and efficiency in artificial lift in the global oil sector.

The two-day event is being held at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain in Manama, under the auspices the Ministry of Oil and Environment, Kingdom of Bahrain in which over two dozen oil and sector’s companies are also taking part in the coinciding exhibition.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, attended the opening ceremony and HE took a tour of the exhibition hall. The event is supported by Aramco as the Host Organisation and Tatweer Petroleum, a subsidiary of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), as the Co-Host Organisation.

The two-day conference aims at offering industry professionals with an in-depth understanding of current and upcoming technologies in the artificial lift domain. The agenda presents an impressive line-up of global executives and experts to showcase their experiences, research, and success stories.

In the presence of His Excellency the Minister the opening ceremony commenced with speeches by Waleed Al-Mulhim, Executive Director of Petroleum, Engineering and Development, Saudi Aramco; Medhat Kamal, 2023 SPE President, Fellow Emeritus, Chevron and Fahad Al Shinaiber, Conference Chair, Head of Artificial Lift, Saudi Aramco.

“The theme of this conference is Make it REAL (reliability and efficiency in artificial lift). Reliability and efficiency have always been key drivers for the artificial lift journey. Our theme is critical, considering today’s challenges, be it the unwavering forces of climate change or the competitive race towards IR 4. However, in the world of artificial lift these challenges are opportunities to show our industry professionals and subject-matter experts’ capabilities,” Fahad Al Shinaiber said, while highlighting the relevance of the conference theme.

“Artificial lift is the major method to produce oil and gas. Still, we have a lot of technological development that needs to be done in this area and it is required. We need to continue listen to the presentations over the next couple of days and we will continue to talk to our colleagues on how we can continue to do the work we are doing in that area,” said Medhat Kamal, 2023 SPE President, Fellow Emeritus, Chevron.

The conference agenda features 2 executive plenary sessions, 2 panel sessions and 14 technical and knowledge sharing ePoster sessions with over 150 speakers from more than 30 countries.

The exhibition showcases 26 companies featuring their latest products and services that are contributing to the growth, efficiency, and sustainability of major global energy projects. The event’s sponsors and supporters include Aramco (Host Organisation), Tatweer Petroleum, a subsidiary of the National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) (Co-Host Organisation), Baker Hughes (Platinum Sponsor); Championx, Schlumberger, Wanda Cable (Silver Sponsors); Alkhorayef.
