GPIC contributes $2.5b to the national economy

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has become a major contributor to the national economy by pumping some $2.5 billion into the economy since the launch of its commercial operations, according to a company statement.

In addition to its contribution to the national economy, it added, GPIC has set global benchmark in health, safety and environment, exhibiting the excellence of the company in all vital sectors of its business model.

GPIC is also the first petrochemical companies in the Middle East to have an operational Carbon Dioxide Recovery (CDR) Project aimed at cutting down the emissions of the green house gases by improving the overall efficiency of natural resources and enhancing production of Methanol and Urea in its complex.

In recognition of the high reputation won by GPIC in the areas of health, safety and the environment and the international recognition enjoyed by the Company, GPIC was selected to become the key-note speaker of the First International Conference of Latin American States for Safety, Health and Environment.

The event was held in the Argentinean city of Salta which is right in oil and gas and attended by 300 leading government and oil company figures from the South American countries in addition a number of engineers working in this industry.
At the conference GPIC was represented by Fadhel Mallalah Al Ansari, GPIC’s Technical Services Manager as a key-note speaker and he highlighted the basic principles of sustainable development.

“The basic principles of sustainable development include community service, protection of the environment and profitability which are the same three principles adopted by GPIC for management of its operations enabling to become a globally recognized entity in the petrochemical sector,” Fahel told the audience.

GPIC also won many awards from leading firms and organizations in Europe and the US.

One of the main and most prestigious awards is the Sir Gorge Earle Trophy presented by the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) received by the Company for its best performance in the areas of safety and health exceeding the performance of all other industrial sectors worldwide. Moreover, the Company also won the Robert Campbell Safety, Health and Environment Award from the US National Safety Council.

Fadhel also shed light on the sustainable development and environmental protection model which according to him helped the company to become a global player in the industry. He also reviewed the company’s experience in the vital areas of the petrochemical industry and how the company is taking the business model forward.

GPIC has also won the accreditation RC 14001:2008 becoming the first company in the Middle East to won this certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) following DNV conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the Company’s operations and activities,” the company.

“Responsible care is a system that ensures the Company’s commitment and responsibility towards its employees and their families. It also ensures complying with maintaining the environment and the social corporate role played towards the various sectors of the community. This goes hand in hand with maintaining safety of the plants for risk free operations,” he added.

GPIC won the ISO 9000 Quality certification, ISO 14000 environmental management certification and ISO 27000 information system security award and the PAS 99 certification for integrated management systems. These awards are designed to ensure a strict compliance with proper management system for the Company’s operations. “This would inspire confidence in the safe operation and high quality of service to both the employees and customers while maintaining safe plant operations,” he said.
