The move, which applies to 43 cases, will benefit 343 suspects, as part of ongoing assessment of the National Safety procedures and review of the legality of charges levelled against the accused. The measure is also in line with the findings of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) Report. However, other cases will remain pending as they involve crimes of violence and sabotage targeting people and properties. In a statement issued today Dr. Albuainain announced that the Public Prosecution would continue assessing cases relating to right of rallying and scrutinize issued verdicts. He also revealed that the Interior Ministry had referred to the Public Prosecution lodged cases and complaints relating to torture and maltreatment. A team of prosecutors are now investigating the cases in deep insight under the direct authority of Dr. Albuainain. They will start hearing the testimonies of victims and plaintiffs at the beginning of next week. Dr. Albuainin said that the Public Prosecution would step up its efforts to expedite investigation in total transparency. A statement would be issued on completion of the investigation, detailing procedures to be undertaken.
