Al-Mahroos will be succeeded by Gordon Smith as Chief Executive effective January 1, 2012. Dr Mirza expressed thanks and appreciation to Al-Mahroos for his dedication and contributions over 35 years.
Al-Mahroos joined Bapco as a petroleum engineer in 1976 and was promoted to various senior positions till he was appointed the Chief Executive of Bapco in 2009.
He played a key role in promoting Bahrain Field operations during the eighties which greatly contributed to enhancing the field’s reserve and bolstering the national economy, in addition to his tangible contributions in exploration activities, the deep gas and enhanced production project of Bahrain Field, which culminated in the establishment of Tatweer Petroleum Company and execution of a number of key refining projects, including LBOP project, WWTP project and Master Plan project, in addition to other vital projects in refining and marketing.
Al-Mahroos contributed upgrading oil technologies and sciences through organizing and chairing several oil forums in the Middle East. He presented many work papers and researches on oil industry, which are a valuable reference that serves as a key updated data base of oil and gas business. His long career in oil industry has been crowned with his winning of the Man of Year 2011 in oil industry, in recognition of his contributions and accomplishments in oil business.
The Minister wished Al-Mahroos continued health and happiness after retirement, and wished Smith good luck in his new position.
