BIAS reinforces Bahrain’s position as an expo hub

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who chaired at Gudaibiya Palace the cabinet regular weekly meeting, affirmed Bahrain’s position as emerging exhibition and conferences hub in the region.

The cabinet hailed success of Bahrain International Air Show (BIAS) 2012 at all levels, praising its positive impact on the national economy as well as on promoting the Kingdom’s status as a major host of international festivals and exhibitions, Cabinet Affairs Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed said in a statement.

The ministers congratulated Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the show’s Supreme organizing committee Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa on this success stressing that the massive turnout as well as the media echo BIAS has had regionally and internationally have boosted confidence in Bahrain’s ability to host major international events.

The ministerial council spotlighted Bahrain’s development momentum by assessing the technical and executive progress of some infrastructure projects aimed mainly at improving the road and water drainage networks.

The council discussed ways of organizing putting up communication masts to ensure commitment of wireless telecommunication networks operators to set up conditions and criteria. It approved in this regard a draft decision to issue the executive by-law concerning the radio communication stations and networks.

Within the same context, the cabinet approved the results of a specialized study conducted by an international think-tank organization at a request by the Public Commission for the Protection of Environment, Wildlife and Marine Resources which confirmed conformity of communication towers to international standards.

The Ministerial council gave the go-ahead to the construction of a new stadium with a capacity of 20,000 spectators. The new facility aims to support the youth and sport sector as well as enhance the kingdom’s capability to host regional and international sporting events.

The cabinet tasked concerned authorities to take the necessary measures to speed up implementation of this project.

The council was informed about the Labour Ministry’s preparations to launch the first Vocational Safety and Health Conference.

It also approved and referred to the legislative power a draft law to ratify an agreement between Bahrain and Australia on exchanging information about taxation.

The cabinet approved the final signing of a draft agreement and its amended protocol between Bahrain and Germany on exchanging information about taxation.

The ministers were informed about a memorandum by the Industry and Commerce Minister on a fiber-glass-producing project set up by a Chinese firm in Bahrain with a joint investment.

The ministerial council was also informed through a memorandum by the Industry and Commerce Minister about signing the Bahraini-Philippine agricultural investment second expansion contract which is part of the Kingdom’s economic policy to guarantee food security and boost the private sector’s role in this regard.
The cabinet approved four proposals by the parliament concerning development of old areas and upgrading the road and drainage networks, creating an integrated premises for the General Orgnisation for Youth and Sport, Bahrain Olympic Committee and the sport associations, face-lifting old streets in the third constituency of Muharraq and constructing a jetty for fishermen and sailors from Hoora and Gudaibiya.
