According to initial details, the fire broke out in a kitchen of an apartment building in East Riffa at 4.30 am local time on Sunday claiming 10 lives of labourers.
The eyewitnesses believe the labourers died after inhaling the smoke as there were no signs of burns on the bodies and most of the belongings in the room were not damaged due to fire.
Bahrain’s Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan visited the site and issued instructions on the spot to look into the all aspects of incident and file a complete report immediately to the concerned authorities.
The official from Bangladesh embassy also visited the site and assured the full co-operation including the repatriation of the remains of deceased after the completion of investigation and other formalities.
It is worth noting that the building owners in Bahrain in various areas, especially the low rent areas, are still maintaining buildings without ensuring emergency precautions like fire alarms and necessary ventilation and emergency exits in the living areas.
The Civil Defence and the Municipalities are the regulators and are responsible to enforce the guidelines to keep the building safe and according to the laws.
