Al-Wefaq National Society general-secretariat member Jawad Fairooz claimed 1400 are still being detained.
“We are confident Jawad Fairooz failed to tell the truth. He is unable to corroborate his claims”, Public Prosecution Acting Attorney-General Wael Bualley said.
“A total 198 people convicted in the National Safety cases are serving their jail terms-of whom 130 have been indicted in cases relating to rioting, rallying and attempts to murder policemen”, he said, debunking Jawad Fairooz’s allegations.
A group of 595 are still being held in custody pending investigation in cases of rioting, rallying and terror.
Bualley revealed that a total 923 people are either jailed or held in custody pending investigation in cases relating to terror, rioting and rallying since February 2011.
He denied Jawad Fairooz’s allegations who claimed other people disappeared forcibly, urging evidence to prove his allegations.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution pointed out that the accused Hussain Al-Aali is being held in custody for his involvement in a terror case.
“His lawyer has been allowed to visit him and get an undertaking in line with the law guaranteeing the accused rights.”
