Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation, taking part in the annual session of the parliamentary conference on the World Trade Organisation 2012, currently held in Geneva, reviewed the Kingdom’s experience in reducing poverty.
The delegation stressed that Bahrain had exerted tangible efforts in this regard by adopting various schemes and projects which do not only aim to provide the poor or people with limited incomes with financial aids or assistance in kind but also seek to improve the living conditions of those categories.
Head of the delegation MP Mahmood Al Mahmood said Bahrain had drawn up a comprehensive national plan to support needy families through carrying out sustainable social and economic development schemes.
He pointed out that Bahrain has directed most of its budget over the past years to invigorate projects that cater directly to people’s needs, especially the poor and those with limited incomes.
He also added that huge amounts of money had been pumped for new projects, including mainly housing.
He also cited steps taken by the kingdom to support the social security network and develop it according to international standards.
