The incident occurred on March 13, 2011 when the university was overrun by an armed mob that terrorized students, faculty and staff, and destroyed property amounting to approximately $1 million. The shocking incident, which took place at the Sakhir campus, was caught on film from a police helicopter and shown as evidence in the trial.
According to reports, the victim a naturalized Bahraini was taken to the roof of a building by a security guard in order to hide him, but another door was unlocked allowing a mob of up to 30 people to attack him until he collapsed. He was clubbed with metal rods and wooden planks, and hit and kicked repeatedly, resulting in a broken hand and nose, back injury and an eight per cent permanent disability in his elbow.
