In another context, the High Criminal Court issued seven-year jail sentences against two policemen who were found guilty of beating that led to death and acquitted three others.
The Court of Appeals also issued its rulings in the cases of two policemen, acquitting one and reducing the prison term from three months to just one for the other.
He added that the Public Prosecution appealed two verdicts acquitting a policewoman, accused of using force to extract confession, and two policemen suspected of firing bird shots while dealing with rioting incidents, which led to the death of one protestor, noting that the Court of Appeals is still examining the two cases and hasn’t issued its verdict.
SIU Chief also said that one of the investigators paid a visit to the Dry Dock Detention Unit where he heard the statements of eight detainees following their claims regarding ill-treatment, bad quality food and prevention of their relatives from visiting them, and the basis of that SIU directed the detention officials to resolve all shortcomings.
