His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, who attended a dinner banquet hosted by Oommen Chandy Chief Minister of Kerala, during his visit to the Indian state, called upon the Indian investors to seize opportunities in Bahrain whose economy grew 70% in last decade.

In his dinner address, His Royal Highness recalled his visit last year to India, which resulted in several trade agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral investment and commercial co-operation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and India.

His Royal Highness noted that in returning to India he was reminded again of the significant potential that exists to further enhance diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

His Royal Highness remarked on the more than two decades of high growth in India that has led it to become an Asian economic powerhouse, enabling it to withstand global economic challenges, including the recent financial crisis. He stated that the continued dynamism of the Indian economy promises greater growth in the future and that the decades ahead presented both countries with significant opportunities.

His Royal Highness gave his thanks and appreciation to the Chief Minister for his warm welcome and generous reception. The event featured a traditional cultural performance that His Royal Highness noted aptly reflected the harmony of Kerala’s society.

His Royal Highness gave public recognition to the valuable contribution of the Indian community to economic and social life of Bahrain, also remarking on Kerala’s investment in education and its unique successes in this area.

Stating the investment case for Bahrain, His Royal Highness spoke of the economic reforms undertaken in the Kingdom that have led to an open business environment and over 70% growth during the past decade. He emphasised that as the country continues to diversify its economy away from oil, it is looking to further growth in new sectors and develop industry.

Outlining the substantial partnerships that already exist – 2100 companies registered with Indian partnerships – His Royal Highness expressed his positive outlook for the future, with substantial economic growth providing further investment opportunities for both countries.

Touching on the National Dialogue currently underway in Bahrain, His Royal Highness expressed his hope that all sides will contribute to creating the right environment to achieve an agreement acceptable to all sides, which is in Bahrain’s ultimate best interest.

Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, responded by expressing his warm welcome to His Royal Highness and welcoming the delegation to return again to Kerala as well as encouraging visits to other regions in India.

Indian entrepreneur, Yousif Ali in his speech described Bahrain as a peaceful country, which enjoys great religious freedom and tolerance under its leadership.

During the dinner, Bahraini business representatives met with their Indian peers, discussing ways to foster greater co-operation and take advantage of opportunities present in both countries.
