The SCW was established reliant upon Royal Ordinance dated August 22, 2001 directly affiliated to His Majesty to become the official reference in all matters pertaining to Bahraini women, has jurisdiction to express opinion and to consider direct and indirect matters related to the position of women and whose opinion should be sought by all official authorities before taking any action or decision in this regard.
Her Royal Highness Prince Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa presides over the 16-member Council which includes experienced and expert women public figures who represent all segments of the Bahraini community.
The SCW has a General Secretariat, led by its Secretary General with the rank of Minister who assumes active jurisdictions of the SCW, accomplishes its objectives and sets up its plans and programmes related to women affairs and reports the Council resolutions and recommendations to the relevant authorities. The SCW laid down the National Strategic Plan for Revival of Bahraini Women during its first term (2001-2004). The report also included the SCW National Strategic Plan 2013-2021.
