January 13, 2014
0

CabinetIn line with the directives of His Majesty the King on finding mechanisms to renounce hate, the Cabinet on Sunday decided to form the Committee Against Hatred and Sectarianism to combat with these issues.

The committee’s duties would include proposing and adopting policies and methodologies, as well as preparing effective programmes that address the problem of hate speech, regardless of where it originates from, while simultaneously working to spread the spirit of tolerance, reconciliation and coexistence and enhance unity among the people of Bahrain.

The decision to this effect was announced during a weekly cabinet meeting chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa at the Gudaibiya Palace in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

After the meeting, Secretary General of the Cabinet Dr. Yaser bin Essa Al Naser released the following statement:

The Cabinet greeted His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the people of Bahrain, and the Muslim world on the occasion of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The Cabinet then discussed the memorandums listed on its work agenda and made the following decisions:

The Cabinet approved a draft resolution on the basic principles for the use of force and firearms, which came as a recommendation of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (i.e., BICI, paragraph 1722 / c); the laws issued in this regard from the United Nations (i.e., the Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials issued by the United Nations adopted in Havana in September, 1990); the United Nations Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution issued in December 1979; and finally the code of conduct for police officers issued in Draft Law 14/2012.

The Cabinet approved a new contract agreement between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Czech Republic to regulate air transport services and assigned the Minister of Transportation to sign this agreement on behalf of Bahrain, as well as to take the necessary constitutional procedures.

The Cabinet approved a bill to abolish the Radio and Television Commission established by Decree 1/1993, and decided to refer it to the Legislative Authority.

The Cabinet discussed the recommendation submitted by the Ministry of Culture on the protection of sites of historical, architectural, cultural and natural value. The Cabinet instructed the Ministerial Committee for Services and Infrastructure to study the memorandum submitted by the Minister of Culture.

The Cabinet approved three proposals brought by the House of Representatives as follows: (1) the expansion of streets surrounding the sixth roundabout in Hamad Town; (2) on the matter of the youth center of the eighth division in the central region; and (3) on the matter of providing support for kindergarten.

The Cabinet took note of the results of the recent visit of the Minister of Health to the State of Kuwait.
