Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Fadhul bin Ghanim Al-Buainain, stressed keenness and support of the Kingdom of Bahrain led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the humanitarian efforts aimed at lifting the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.

This came in the Foreign State Minister speech at the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria being held in Kuwait under the patronage of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He underscored the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to donate $ 20 million by the Kingdom of Bahrain to aid the Syrian refugees, as announced by HH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, at the first edition of this event on 30 January 2013.

He reviewed Bahrain’s efforts in establishing a number of development and relief projects for the Syrian refugees in Zaatari camp, including the establishment of a residential complex, four schools and a psychological consultant center to serve approximately 10,000 refugees, in addition to establishing a field hospital near the Syrian-Turkish border, noting the Royal Charity Organization’s efforts in implementing aid projects for Syrian refugees.

He hailed the efforts of Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey in hosting Syrian refugees on their lands and providing them with humanitarian aid. He also commended the efforts of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and international organizations and agencies working in the humanitarian field.

The conference was attended by Arab League’s Sec-Gen Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi, GCC Sec-Gen Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, UN Under-Sec-Gen for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos and a number of prominent figures.
