MANAMA: The authorities in Bahrain on Sunday claimed that it had made number of arrests in terrorist attack on police which killed one police officer and injured other two seriously when a police patrol came under attack on Saturday evening.
His Excellency Interior Minister, Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired on Sunday a meeting of senior Interior Ministry officials and got briefing on the latest security situation and the results of the initial investigations into the terrorist attack in Karbabad village. The investigation has so far resulted in arrests of number of suspects.
HE Interior Minister offered his sincere condolences to Bahrainis and to the family of the deceased policeman, Mohammed Tanweer, who was killed on Saturday during the attack. HE prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace and may Allah grant a courage to the family to bear this loss. The Minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of the two other injured policemen.
The Minister stressed that anyone who incites violence will be held accountable by law. He stated that 17 policemen have been killed since 2011 and that he hoped everyone involved in these crimes will be brought to justice.
He said the most recent terrorist attack in Karbabad was the result of incitement from both inside and outside of Bahrain and reminded parents to protect their children from incitement online.
HE Interior Minister asserted that police personnel are legally authorised to use force against anyone who jeopardises the lives of police officers or the security of the nation, and that the role of police is to protect general order. He stressed the importance of justice in terrorist cases to protect security and punish those responsible from committing such attacks.
