Bahrain oil pipeline blast was an act of terror

Bapco-Aramco oil pipeline caught fire after a terror blast late on Friday evening,

MANAMA: As part of counter-terrorism operations and to maintain national security, a gang of terrorists, who are members of the February 14 Coalition, have been arrested for plotting and blasting an oil pipeline near the Buri village in November last year.

The incident was a serious terrorist act that targeted the supreme interests of the nation and the people’s safety. However, the damage caused by the blast was brought under control and its catastrophic fallout was contained by the grace of God and the cooperation and coordination between the Interior Ministry and the Oil Ministry. Thus, the fire was controlled remarkably quickly, the residents were secured and protected and plans for the evacuation and provision of shelter were activated at the centres allotted for the purpose.

Immediately after the terrorist act, the Civil Defence and the explosives disposal teams rushed to the scene to secure the area and take the necessary steps to protect lives and property. The crime scene teams, those from the forensic lab and other officials concerned were also deployed. Investigation groups were formed to examine the collected data and follow up on the clues. Their efforts resulted in the identification of the terrorists and arrest of the following Fadhel Mohammed Jaffar Ali, 23, driver; Anwar Abdulaziz Musa Jaffar Mushaima, 24, private-sector employee; Mohammed Abdullah Isa Abdullah Mahroos, 27, a company employee and Adel Ahmed Ali Ahmed Saleh, 23, a company employee.

The investigation also revealed that two of those arrested had received intensive training at the Iranian Revolutionary Guard camps with the help of the leading fugitive terrorists living in Iran.

The terrorists in Bahrain are recruited and their expenses for travelling to Iran are covered under the excuse of going on religious visits. Their training included making and using bombs, using different types of guns such as Kalashnikovs and PKCs as well as rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). They also attended special security courses in which they were assigned to carry out attacks to harm the Kingdom’s economy and its oil pipeline.

Immediately after their return from Iran, they planned and got ready to blast the oil pipeline in Buri, in addition to committing a series of other terrorist acts. They checked out the location and remotely bombed the pipeline. The act harmed the supreme interests of the nation and its people, spread fear and caused financial losses and damage to people’s homes and other properties. People were subsequently compensated for the damage they had suffered.

Meanwhile, the search continues to arrest a number of terrorists involved in the financing, planning and implementation of those crimes. They are Habib Abdullateef Mahdi, 19, a fugitive sentenced to life imprisonment; Abdullah Jaffar Ahmed Al Madani, 34, a fugitive living in Iran; and Mohammed Ali Ibrahim Khalil, 35, a fugitive living in Iran.

The investigation has revealed the physical and digital evidence of the suspects’ involvement in financing, preparing and executing terrorist crimes in different areas, which were foiled by their arrest. The Public Prosecutor’s investigation will reveal further details in this regard.
