Carbon Capture, Utilization, Storage Conference open on Tuesday


MANAMA: The 1st edition of the International Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Conference (iCCUS 2020) opens on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 under the co-sponsorship of H.R.H. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy and H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh.

Hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the event is expecting the participation of more than 800 participants from the dignitaries, the ministers of oil and energy from various countries of the world and the CEO’s of companies specialized in the oil sector and technicians and academics. Where they will discuss the role of carbon capture, use and storage in enabling the global carbon economy, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Energy, the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and supported by Saudi Aramco, Bahraini oil companies and a number of international companies.

H.E. the Minister expressed his great happiness in the joint organization with the Saudi side in topics of common interest in promoting the technology of capture, reuse and recycling of carbon dioxide emissions in order to combat climate change and enhance oil production that will benefit the economic system. Pointing out the importance of the topics and technical papers that will be presented at the conference to enhance knowledge and development and exchange information, experiences and participate in building capacity and skills in addition to develop the skills and experiences of the human element, which is a main pillar of the development process. Sustainability in the environment.

H.E. praised the initiative put forward by NOGA to organize this conference in its first edition, which came to highlight the most important voluntary projects and initiatives implemented by the Kingdom of Bahrain to reduce the negative effects of climate change on the Kingdom.

H.E. the Minister said that the issue of climate change is one of the issues of the global environment resulting from the industrial revolution that began in 1770, and benefited the developed countries, which contributed to the worsening of the global climate problem, which was called in 2015 to share responsibility for the environment and the preservation of the environment among countries developed and developing according to a system or constitution called the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

H.E. noted that the conference will include panel discussions that will cover several important topics such as climate, use and storage strategies, emerging business models, the value of low carbon economy, regional and global perspectives, carbon economy, hydrogen, carbon capture, use and storage and other specialized topics in this regard with the participation of more than 70 experienced speakers in this field.

Also on the sidelines of the conference will be an accompanying exhibition in which a number of companies specialized in oil and gas, manufacturing and chemical industries, energy sector, cement, iron and steel industries, food producers, equipment manufacturers and service companies from around the world will present the latest technology and experiences related to environmental matters and meet and listen to a large number of representatives of the exhibitors participating in this big event including Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Bahrain Petroleum  Company (Bapco), Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas), Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) and others global companies.
