Tamkeen and GOYS join hands for Youth City 2030

June 8, 2011
0

Under the patronage of Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, GOYS andTamkeen sealed an agreement paving the way for Youth City 2030 for the second consecutive year this month.

This comes as part of GOYS’s strategy to support Bahraini youth; promote creative thinking; and enrich their expertise and talents. Furthermore, the initiative is designed in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and strives to realise one of Tamkeen’s core objectives to provide support required to develop youth talents in the Kingdom and put them on the right track for the workplace.

An agreement was signed on Tuesday between Tamkeen and GOYS to support this programme for the second year in a row aiming to encourage Bahraini youth to receive appropriate training and skills in line with market requirements through the various programmes offered by Youth City 2030.

“Youth City 2030 is an unprecedented initiative in the region due to the various educational and training activities aimed at empowering youth and catering to their different needs and interests,” GOYS President Hisham Mohamed Al- Jowder said.

“The events will include workshops and specialised training programmes that develop the life and leadership skills and develop youth through their participation and innovation in the various programme launched within the city.”

“The idea of Youth City 2030 forms part of the overall strategy of GOYS and focuses greatly on youth as they constitute the largest cluster of the Bahraini community,” Al-Jowder added.

He underlined Tamkeen’s partnership and its role in making this city a success. He also underlined the role of a number of other participants such as the Supreme Council for Women, inJAz, the Southern Governorate, and a number of media sponsors such as Bahrain Television, Amwaj Television, Al Ayam, Akhbar Al Khaleej, Al Watan and Al Bilad.

Al-Jowder expressed confidence in the success of the second edition of Youth City 2030 building on the momentum the project achieved last year and capitalising on the fact that the initiative receives the patronage of Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Another success pillar was the strategic partnership with Tamkeen, which is known for its continuous support to all leading initiatives aimed at empowering Bahraini youth and shaping their skills and talents.

“Tamkeen strives to encourage youth to enter the marketplace and supports them with the necessary skills that grant them experience to enter the business sector with an entrepreneurship spirit,” Tamkeen’s Vice President for Enterprise and Human Capital Development Dr. Ahmad Abdul Hameed Al Shaikh said.

“Tamkeen seeks, through this partnership to support Youth City 2030, and to invest in youth empowerment, providing experience and creativity. Further, it seeks to develop their entrepreneurship skills, demonstrate their creative personalities, and prepare them to be leaders in the private sector in compliance with Tamkeen’s vision in the long run putting in mind that the youth are the leaders of the future and the backbone of the Kingdom,” Dr. Al Shaikh added.

The organising committee announced that it has increased the participants’ number in the project to be 1,600 participants from both genders who are in the age groups of 10 to 14 years and 15 to 25 years. Last year’s event had 672 participants on board. The increment this year came in response to the high demand on the project.

Besides, the organising committee announced that the number of volunteers of Youth City has increased to 200 due to the increase of the “villages”, the activities and programmes, and in response to the increased number of participants.

On the proposed events side, the City enjoys this year a number of various programmes and the participation of reputed businesses and organisations. It is planned that this year’s villages will hold contemporary innovative ideas leading to encourage a sense of creativity amongst youth. On top of the events agenda are workshops in scientific, artistic and technological fields; interior design; fashion design; drawing, sketching; illustration; sculpture and pottery-making.
